Learn How to Glass Blow?

I want to learn glass blowing. I want to focus on tobacco pipe and water pipes but I'd also like to do jewlery and other small pieces. There is a glass blowing class at the local Community College and a space that rents out a kiln and heating equipment and you can go and use it if you pay. I live in the Portland, OR area and I really want to learn this. I'm willing to put in time and my own money. I'm just wondering besides taking the class at the CC what else should I do to prepare to start learning this trade? I know it will take time, I'm not looking to learn this really fast. I just want to know what kind of information I need to know.
