What is a good pottery kiln for a beginner to buy?

I've never had to fire any of my own stuff so I'm not sure what kind of kiln I should buy.I really don't know anything about kilns. I don't know what voltage would be best, if I should get electric or gas, or if there are certain brands to stay away from. I don't have tons of money, I just need something fairly small that will get the job done. Also, what type of surroundings should it be put in to prevent it from catching anything on fire? Any advice would be appreciated!
