cone 02 is hotter than 05, the cone temps go from larger numbers to smaller on the 02 side, and from smaller to larger on the other side so 022 for would be a cooler temp for gold luster, but cone 8 would be very hot for stone ware, if you don't have a auto matic cone sitter, you need to build a cone pack, take some clay and place 3 large cones one for the temp you want to fire at, and one for a cooler temp and one for a hotter temp cone 4 cone 5 -6 and cone 7, when the first cone melts you know you temp is close to what you want
