Best way to dispose of dead trees- Burn or compost or ?

I burn Pine and hope the CO2 is absorbed in the forest vegetation, if I made a unsightly rotting pile, then I produce Methane. I plan on making a Charcoal KILN for the hardwoods if I could WIKI good info. Any Suggestions?
